We are delighted to be funded by the Arts Council of Ireland for this concert series. For our 2019 edition, curated by Roisin Maher and taking place from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th March 2019, Finding a Voice focuses on the music of women composers through the ages, building and expanding on our highly successful inaugural series in 2018 but in particular celebrating the anniversaries of three significant women composers: the 400th anniversary of the birth of celebrated Italian baroque composer Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677); the 200th anniversary of the birth of German romantic composer Clara Schumann (1819-1896); and the 70th birthday of renowned Canadian composer Alexina Louie (b. 1949), who will travel to Ireland for the very first time to be present for a concert of her music. Alexina Louie, whose 70th birthday falls in 2019, will be in attendance, on her first ever visit to Ireland. http://www.southtippartscentre.ie/details.php?ID=99 - Irish Baroque Orchestra: La Donna Barocca Venue/Time: Main Guard - 8pm Irish Baroque Orchestra, directed by Claire Duff, with Sarah Power (soprano) celebrate the vocal music of 17th- century Italian composer, Barbara Strozzi, marking the 400th anniversary of her birth, alongside that of her female contemporaries and successors including Isabella Leonarda, Elizabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre, Elisabetta de Gambarini, Maria Antonia Walpurgis and Maddalena Lombardini SATURDAY 9TH MARCH Clara Schumann Day http://www.southtippartscentre.ie/details.php?ID=100 - Mary Hegarty Venue/Time: Old St. Mary’s - 1pm http://www.southtippartscentre.ie/details.php?ID=100 - Saturday 9th March is dedicated to one of the best-known women composers of all time, the inspiring Clara Schumann. The lunchtime concert features one of Ireland’s most celebrated singers, soprano Mary Hegarty, with accompanist Gabriela Mayer on piano who perform a programme of romantic lieder by Clara Schumann. This lunchtime concert also features the world premiere of Jane O’Leary’s Clara (2012-13) for clarinet/bass clarinet and speaker, with Paul Roe and Aideen Wylde Reflections on Clara Venue/Time: Tipperary County Museum, Clonmel - 3pm Four of the seven commissioned composers - Jane O'Leary, Rhona Clarke, Marian Ingoldsby and Amanda Feery - will talk about Clara Schumann’s life and work, as well as about their approach to the commissioned piece Reflections on a Theme by Clara Schumann which will be performed in the evening concert by Fidelio Trio. This event is free and no booking is required. http://www.southtippartscentre.ie/details.php?ID=101 - Fidelio Trio Venue/Time: Old St. Mary’s - 8pm Leading international piano trio, the Fidelio Trio continue the tribute to Clara Schumann with a concert of music for solo piano and piano trio by Clara Schumann, as well as trios by Rebecca Clarke and Joan Trimble. This concert features the world premiere of Reflections on a Theme by Clara Schumann, commissioned by Finding A Voice and performed by renowned pianist Mary Dullea SUNDAY 10TH MARCH http://www.southtippartscentre.ie/details.php?ID=102 - Quiet Music Ensemble: The Mystery Beyond Matter Venue/Time: Main Guard - 5pm http://www.southtippartscentre.ie/details.php?ID=102 - http://www.southtippartscentre.ie/details.php?ID=102 - On Sunday, Cork-based experimental music group, the Quiet Music Ensemble will bring their unique sonic art to Clonmel with 'The Mystery Beyond Matter', a piece commissioned by the group from the late great Pauline Oliveros http://www.southtippartscentre.ie/details.php?ID=103 - Soirée Musicale with Thérèse Fahy and PRISM Ensemble Venue/Time: Old St. Mary’s - 8pm http://www.southtippartscentre.ie/details.php?ID=103 - We finish with a ‘Soirée Musicale’ with the PRISM Ensemble, a chamber music group featuring outstanding members of the National Symphony Orchestra alongside one of Ireland’s foremost pianists and a specialist in French music, Thérèse Fahy (piano). The concert features solo and chamber music by 19th- and early 20th-century French composers including Cécile Chaminade and Germaine Tailleferre, before finishing with one of the series highlights, Louise Farrenc’s virtuosic Piano Quintet No.1
