From Spirituals to Sonatas - A Journey of Discovery

Join pianist and musicologist Dr Samantha Ege for this free public talk as she elaborates on her discovery of unjustly neglected women composers and speaks about how the music of Florence Price, Margaret Bonds and Vítězslava Kaprálová continues to inspire her to champion their work and that of other forgotten women in music.

This talk takes place after Samantha's lunchtime concert on Friday 4th March for FAV22, and may be of particular interest to attendees, but is suitable for all.

Award-winning researcher, internationally recognised concert pianist, and renowned public speaker Dr Samantha Ege belongs to a new generation of practitioners who are redefining classical music and illuminating the diversity of its past, present, and future. In this eagerly-anticipated concert, Ege visits Ireland for the first time to perform the spiritual-infused works of the pioneering Florence Price and Margaret Bonds and closes with the sole sonata composed by the prodigious Czech composer Vítězslava Kaprálová.

Florence Price Fantasie Nègre No. 1 [Irish première]

Margaret Bonds Spiritual Suite [Irish première]

Vítězslava Kaprálová Sonata Appassionata [Irish première]

"Ege understands these pieces on a fundamental level, and her rapport with the music comes shining through in her playing." Sound Meets Sound
