The work focuses on the impact of human action and inaction on these sites, many of which appear at first glance .
bucolic and sublime. It asks us to question both what lies beneath, as well as the long term implications of the use of military grade chemicals and indeed other chemicals, such as the fertilisers used by the agricultural sector.
This work has already been shown in Ireland and the UK, and on each occasion it has unearthed a deep concern among the public regarding the local environment. In Cornwall, questions were asked about arsenic poisoning in the surrounding valleys, while in Cork people worried about the Haulbowline (Irish Steel) plant in Cork Harbour, one of Europe’s most toxic waste sites. Concern for the community and locality are stirred up by engagement with my exhibition.
