Sliabh na mBan [Scorched Grass/Structured Gress/Keep Yourself Nice] An exhibition by Mollie Anna King, for Clonmel Junction Arts Festival 2019 Open daily 10am - 5pm By exploring the use of ritual and routine as a means of embedding ones self in a place, Mollie Anna King engages with the physical, material and historical elements of her immediate surrounds to create architectural forms. These question our unconscious responses to both built and natural environments through the use of routes and well-worn paths within domestic, display and rural spaces. Interlinking personal rituals with those of others (namely Winnie from Beckett’s Happy Days), the artist constructs an elevated floor plan which can be seen as a set, a table, a cyclical act and a support structure. The current work engages with notions of idealised interiors and exteriors in the age of Wellness and the Environmental/Housing Crises. Mollie Anna King studied for her B.A at Crawford College of Art Design before completing an M.F.A in Sculpture at the Slade School of Art in 2013. King was a recipient of the Barto dos Santos Memorial Award, the Land Securities award and studio residency in Bow Arts, London. Solo shows in South Tipperary Arts Centre, The NSF Space, The Black Mariah Gallery and CANAL Gallery in London with Group Shows in Bedford Square, AMP Gallery, London and GL Strand in Copenhagen. Community and facilitation are part of her practice and Mollie has run episodic residencies from her childhood home in Kilcash, County Tipperary. In 2019 she was Resident in LSAD’s Ceramic Department and the Artist Resident in STAC, 2018. King has also worked collaboratively with artists Patrick White, Niamh Riordan, Assemble Architects, The Domestic Godless and has been guest Host for Callan Workhouse Union’s Bring Your own Chair Residency.
