Stupid Films, in association with the Irish Film Institute, presents the limited Irish cinema release of Stupid August.
A modern silent film written and directed by Padraig Trehy, Stupid August follows an amnesiac clown exiled to 1960s Ireland, where fragments of memory resurface and ghosts of history return to haunt him. The film features a score by Cork composer John O’Brien which echoes the experience of classic silent cinema - under scoring and enhancing the images on screen.
Starring Louis Lovett and filmed on location across Cork, the production blends theatre, circus, and film to explore exile, memory, and the danger of burying collective histories.
The film returns to Cork after two sold out screenings at last year’s Cork International Film Festival and an award winning international festival journey, which is ongoing.
Film duration 89 mins followed by Q&A with Padraig Trehy
