Residency Programme 2026
South Tipperary Arts Centre and Tipperary Arts Office

OPEN CALL FOR EMERGING CURATOR (from under-represented backgrounds and communities*)

Emerging Curators from under-represented backgrounds and communities* are invited to apply for participation in the STAC Residency Programme 2026, in partnership with Tipperary Arts Office.

The selected curator will be mentored by and work with STAC Artistic Director & Curator, Helena Tobin, to curate our exhibition Margins for Refusal in July 2027. Margins for Refusal, as STAC’s exhibition for Clonmel Junction Arts Festival links in with the 2027 festival theme of 'In the Margins'. The title borrows the words of writer and artist, Jenny Odell, who highlights how peoples' ‘margins for refusal’ are directly connected to their social standing and marginalisation and opens the question ‘who is afforded the time, power or ’margins’ to refuse?’

“… space of refusal is threatened in a time of widespread economic precarity, when everyone from Amazon workers to college students see their margin of refusal shrinking, and the stakes for playing along growing.”  Jenny Odell, ‘How To Do Nothing - Resisting the Attention Economy’

5 artists from under-represented backgrounds and communities will be selected through an Open Call with the exhibition also including a series of engagement activities.

Closing date: Friday 20th November at 5pm.

Late applications will not be accepted and the decision of the assessment panel is final. Applicants will be notified of the panel’s decision by late November.
